Cooked Pear in Port
In the Netherlands, gieser wildeman pear is the common and known "stoofpear" in the market. It will become red during cooking time. Other people add different flavourings like fruit juice, red wine, port, honey or some spices. There's no limitation of taste and wants in this kind of dessert. Cooked pear can be eaten with ice cream, pudding, custard or yoghurt or just simply the cooked pear. The pear and it's sauce is already exquisite.
Ingredients:
6 gieser wildeman pears 2 sticks cinnamon or 1 T cinnamon powder
1/2 cup caster sugar 1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c port 1 liter water
Preparation:
Arrange the pears in a deep pan. The stem must be on the top part. Add all the ingredients and cook for 2 hours in a very low fire or until the water become syrupy and the pear is soft.
