Appelmoes or Apple Sauce
I find my recipe for apple sauce quite good. It is sweet but with a lovely twang from the lemon juice. My children are crazy of this apple sauce and me too. I cannot eat a "hutspot" or "stamppot" without the sauce. By the way, hutspot is the Dutch mashed potato and carrots with spices. In the other hand, stamppot is a mashed potato with vegetables, cheese, nuts and smoked sausage of course.
Ingredients:
1 kg goudrenetten apples or any apples that have sweet 'n a little bit of sour taste
1 C water
500 gram caster sugar
juice from a big lemon
Preparation:
1.Peel the apples, cut them into quarters, remove the core, then slice again. Put everything in a pot with 1 C water and bring to a boil. Add the sugar and lemon juice.
2.Put the lid on the kettle, cook in a low fire for about 20 minutes. Stir constantly to make sure the apples did not stick to the bottom and burned.
3. Serve and have fun!
Tips: When the apples are cooked, you can mashed them as fine as you want and sprinkle some cinnamon.
Apple sauce can be eaten as a dessert or a side dish (with french fries or with mashed potatoes).
